10 Essentials for Building a Solid Web Site:
Administration
Have you ever run across a site that hasn't
been updated in the past year? We're sure
you have, more times than you would like.
Please update your site. Please make sure
all content is current and up to date. You
may think that you have a wealth of material,
and that it would take the average user months
to read it all. Not true at all. You may
have plenty of material, but not everybody
will be interested in all of it. If a user
visits your site, finds a good article, reads
it and enjoys it, he/she will likely come
back at some point. If nothing has changed
when he/she comes back, that user will never
come back again.
Once you start letting go of your site, so
will your users. Your traffic will plunge.
Sometimes there simply isn't time to update
a site as often as you would like. That's
especially the case when you administer several.
Try to set a goal for yourself. Make an honest
attempt to update your site every other day.
You might not always meet that goal, but
you should always stay near it. If you meet
your goal, your traffic will increase. We
promise you.
If you spend most of your time fixing your
site, then you are probably doing something
wrong. There are numerous utilities that
can help you macromanage your site. Find
out what the problem is, and look for a solution
with software.
